One of Those Days ......

Yesterday was one of those days.....the ones were nothing seems to be going right... one of the light sussex has gone broody again just 14 weeks after the last lot of chicks....  a few of the said chicks flew over the coop fence into the yard... they got into the greenhouse and ate all of my seedlings....and destroyed the strawberry bed...... one of the old girls doesn't look too well and she has been laying soft shelled eggs which keep breaking.... A zucchini bush has developed mildew on the leaves....  . the tap on the water filter started leaking and dripping all over the place... argued with the guy I work for.....this was all before breakfast......then while I was having breakfast  I saw this little worried face watching  me.... somehow your pets know when your not happy....made me realise none of the things going on were insurmountable....just annoying.

The beautiful Daisy........she was worried....doesn't normally put her head on the table.
Broody hen is now in the broody buster ( my husband's trailer).... today I will clip the wings on the teenagers...separate the sick chicken to see what's going on with her....pull out the mildewy zucchini plant ... salvage any seedlings from the mess and save what I can... and get the water filter repaired..... then off to writing group.

Friday's Musings......

You always notice how quicker the weeks fly by as it gets closer to Christmas.... already the shops are full of Christmas and it's still October.  Strangely our local supermarket has Halloween and Christmas items out at the same time....don't remember that happening before....but then they had hot cross buns out in early February...go figure.
It's been a busy week ...mostly full of the usual, but my thoughts go out to a lifelong friend whose daughter is in ICU after she developed pre-eclampsia, underwent caesarean section, and is now suffering a  life threatening condition called HELLP syndrome....hopefully she will make a full recovery .... baby is doing well...once again reinforcing the fact that our grasp on life is so precious and precarious.
Spring is in full force around here...beautiful sunny skies today...the seeds I planted and nurtured in the mini greenhouse have unbelievably grown ...first time I have had success...snails didn't manage to find these ones..look forward to planting them out in the next week or two.
Corn seedlings....first success growing from seeds....need the big greenhouse now I think.

At rear: nearly all the pumpkin seeds sprouted...in the front only a few zucchinis ....still happy with that though
The cauliflowers finally have little heads appearing...not sure if it is too late in the season and they may go to seed before they get any bigger...there's been so much leaf growth I didn't think they were ever going to get a head on then...it's a waiting game.

The cauliflowers in the patch have finally started to show their heads....
Busy weekend ahead which includes a Bee Workshop on Saturday...am very interested in having bees so thought I would do the workshop and see what exactly is involved... see how we go hey.

Beating winter blues'........

Wow, winter has hit with a vengeance....so surprising that the sun can be shining beautifully one day and temperatures drop and rainfall starts next day and bang.....it's winter...I work from home so the cold weather wintery blues certainly take their toll on me....not a lot happening in the garden, plants are very slow to come along, not like the glorious bounty of summer crops.....have started growing my own seedlings to see how I go....bought a tiny plastic greenhouse and if I have any success and the seedlings take off, I will look at purchasing a proper greenhouse......would love to have stacks of seedlings and plants on the go...still a lot to learn but putting seeds into soil and adding water can't be all that hard - can it???

My itsy bitsy greenhouse......the start of bigger things maybe.

So far so good....spinach and leek seedlings have started to pop up..
